Pregnancy is one of the happiest experiences in a woman’s life. Albeit the pregnancy discomforts, bearing a child in your womb and witnessing the miracle of life as your baby grows inside you day by day can be a very emotional experience. You are a mother as early as conception. But as the curtain lifts, another more challenging yet by far the most gratifying event in a mother’s life is caring for her newborn baby.

As experts say, caring for your child starts in the womb. How you take care of yourself translates to how healthy your baby will be. For first time moms, aside from the kicks and jabs and rolls and squirms of your little one inside the womb, pictures also bring joy. The closest you can get to your unborn child’s face and features is through your ultrasound. Don’t be surprised if soon enough we’ll see unborn baby photo contest with sonograms as entries.

It’s a scary world to be in for a little guy or girl. As cute and cuddly as they are, these newborn babies are completely helpless without a loving parent to take care of them. These little ones have spent 9 months inside the womb and that’s about the world they know until they are born. They have gotten used to their little apartment inside mommy. Like most kids or even adults, a newborn will naturally look for anything familiar. A mom’s comforting voice and touch will instantly calm a newborn baby. As soon as you can, reassure your baby that mommy is here and that all is fine. Your little bundle of joy may not understand your words, but it’s good enough that they hear your voice.

If you plan to breastfeed, do so within an hour after your delivery. Your baby will not only be scared, he or she will also be tired and hungry from the action-packed coming out. Experts recommend this because a mom’s milk is richest moments after birth. Don’t forget to ask your partner to snap photos of your first tender moments with your newborn. How well you document your baby’s firsts is telling of how much you love him or her.

Congratulations! You successfully got through giving birth and you got your wish of holding your baby in your arms. Some babies are born calmer than others. When babies cry, it usually means they need something or are uncomfortable. Newborn babies are lovely subjects to take photos of, even when they are in a crying bout. But because their skin is still blotchy and red, it’s better to take pictures in black in white. You may not be able to pass this as an entry to a baby photo contest, but it will surely be a classic shot as you chronicle your baby’s life in pictures.

There are no hard and fast rules in raising a newborn baby. Sometimes, you just have to play it by ear. As you do, share your photos with other moms or moms-to-be, although perhaps not through a baby photo contest. You can help a new mom transition to her life with her newborn baby easier if you let your mom-and-baby moments talk through pictures.
